125 years since the opening of the People's Palace and Winter Gardens

On the 22nd January 1898 The opening ceremony took place for the People's Palace in the vast Winter Gardens at the rear of the building.

125 years later, I joined the Friends of the People's Palace, Winter Gardens and Glasgow Green to celebrate this momentous occasion. Sadly, the Winter Gardens today remain closed and the museum exhibits unchanged since the 90's.

It is time the social history of Glasgow was honoured and celebrated, where people can visit and relive Glasgow's past. Where children can learn about their heritage.

As Lord Roseberry said upon its opening, he declared the building should be; "open to the people for ever and ever".
