Education provision for Robroyston residents
Alongside Maureen Burke MP and Councillor Thomas Rannachan I have been supporting the local campaign for better school provision for Robroyston. Many residents purchased their homes from homebuilders with the understanding that a new school would follow shortly thereafter, yet Glasgow City Council has since stated that nearby schools can support the current and projected number of pupils. From my conversations on doorsteps, at community meetings and through email correspondence, this does not reflect the reality faced by local families and that the need for better school provision is becoming increasingly clear.
Holding officials to account
On Thursday, 13 November I directly questioned Education Minister Natalie Don Innes about the suitability of the walking route from Robroyston to Smithycroft Secondary and invited her to join local parents to walk the route. I also highlighted that young families have told me they are considering leaving not long after moving in due to difficulties experienced in getting a place at local nurseries and schools. The Cabinet Secretary for Education has agreed to meet with me about this issue, which is very welcome however the Scottish Government is relying on the Council’s formula to inform them about future planning for school places. This is where you can help.

To ensure your views are represented, I have created a survey that enables you to share your experience directly. By taking the survey below, you can help test the Council’s claim that a new school is unnecessary. Your participation will strengthen the case for improved provision and ensure that the needs of Robroyston residents are accurately understood.
This survey is for Robroyston residents only. The personal data provided in this survey is to inform my parliamentary work and will not be shared with third parties including campaign or political organisations. If you have any questions about how your information will be stored or handled, please contact paul.sweeney.msp@parliament.scot.
